To add to my medicine cabinet, I've made a skin salve that's soothing for all manner of cuts, scrapes, wounds, rashes and, in my case, cat scratches. I started with an Olive Oil base (about 4 oz) and about 1/2 oz each of Rosehip Seed Oil and Sesame Seed Oil - added 2 tablespoons each of Chamomile flowers, Lavender flowers and Calendula flowers. I let it simmer on very low heat for about a half hour, strained the mixture and then added about 1/8 cup of beeswax, 20 drops of Lavender essential oil and 6 drops of Helichrysum. I made sure it was the consistency I wanted by putting a few drops on a plate and letting it cool in the freezer before pouring it into a 4oz container and labeling it once it cooled. If you noticed I started with 5 oz of oils and ended up with 4, it's because some is absorbed by the herbs and some is lost in the straining and pouring process. It ended up a perfect 4oz container and a wonderful, solid but scoopable salve.
One advantage of working in hospice is that I get to play with all the therapy dogs. This is Asher, a Corgi.
