If you're a menopausal or post-menopausal woman who needs creative ways to get more calcium in your diet, I took this recipe for a high calcium treat from my herbal studies book, switched up a couple of things to suit my taste buds and made some treats similar to the ones in this picture. They're pretty yummy. I think I'd add a bit more honey next time but they're still good. I mixed 1 cup of almond butter (the one in the store also contained a little honey and some flax) with 1/2 cup of honey. Then I blended in 1/4 cup slivered almonds, 1/4 cup apricots, and 3 tablespoons of powdered calcium. I toasted 1/4 cup of sesame seeds and put about 1/4 cup of unsweetened coconut in with it and set it aside. Then I went back to the base mix and kept adding powdered milk until it was bread batter consistency so I could forml it into balls (about 1 rounded tablespoon each). I ended up making 21 of them and rolled each one in the sesame seed/coconut mix. I then wrapped them individually in plastic wrap. I froze some for later and put the rest in the fridge to harden up a little more.
One advantage of working in hospice is that I get to play with all the therapy dogs. This is Asher, a Corgi.
